Jesus brings us salvation - āFriend, your sins are forgivenā (Mark 2:5) - and He calls us to discipleship - āFollow Meā (Mark 2:14). We cannot be His disciples without, first, coming to Him for salvation. We must emphasize that salvation leads to discipleship. Our discipleship demonstrates the reality of our salvation. We must hear the words, āIāve come to call sinnersā (Mark 2:17) before we can respond to the call to live as āsaintsā (Godās people). By nature, we are not Godās people. Through His redemption, we become His people. We are redeemed through the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19). We are called to live in the strength of the Lord, walking with Him in the pathway of victory, āmore than conquerorsā through Him who loved usā (Romans 8:37).
